Those of us who protest do so in a spirit to safeguard
our democracy. Our democracy is the very
thing our nation was founded on.

General strikes are called when citizens have no significant power over a congress or the executive no matter how powerfully they have organised themselves to affect the changes they are seeking. A General strike promises permanent change for a better quality of life than Trump’s destructive agenda.

During a general strike, massive numbers of employed Americans leave their jobs and reduce spending until government meets their demands. In order to be successful, there has to be a sufficient number of participants.

Something terrible happened to this country when Trump was elected. Americans wake nearly every day to face and fight a new threat Trump poses, or one that has resurfaced. We must not become complacent. We must not allow Trump to paralyze us with fear. We must make a commitment to fight for the future of our country. Defending the rules and the values on which democracy depends is a responsibility we all share. Our lives depend on it. Our freedom depends on it. Our children’s future depends on it.

PREPARE NOW

Gradually stock cupboards and essential supplies beforehand: storable food items, canned goods, water, personal hygiene items; re-fill medications. Don’t forget essential household items like toilet paper. If you are planning to march, plan to purchase and carry a whistle.

Consider booking vacation or taking sick leave if possible.

Make yourself aware of any changes to state laws curbing mass protests.
